A Cub Cadet wood chipper is a great year-long tool, but only if its provided the proper maintenance. Without regular service, your wood chipper can become a safety hazard – not to mention costly repairs that could otherwise be avoided. To ensure proper maintenance and a long life for your wood chipper, follow our maintenance guide.
Before Each Use
1. Remove all debris.
2. Inspect and clean the control linkage to avoid malfunctions with your control switch.
3. Top off oil and fuel.
Wood Chipper Use Every 8 Hours of Use
1. Lubricate: control levers, discharge chute swivel pivot joints, chute release rod, and any other moving parts.
2. Check that your machine continues to have smooth operation and full range of motion.
3. Change your oil every 8 hours. Afterwards, change the oil ever 50 hours of use.
Special Wood Chipper Maintenance
Step 1: Make sure that the engine and all moving parts are at a complete stop before you begin any type of maintenance or repair work. Disconnect spark plug wires, and double check that the wires are grounded against the engine.
Step 2: Check all bolts and screws for appropriate tightness.
Step 3: Remove and clean the flail screen if needed, but avoid using forceful sprays as they may contaminate the fuel system.
Step 4: Using a dry cloth or brush, clean around the chute and muffler.
Step 5: Use light machine oil to lubricate the chipper's components.
Step 6: Before starting the motor, make sure that the chipper is free of any debris.
Routine Wood Chipper Maintenance
1. The air filter should be changed every 25 hours.
2. Replace spark plugs and blades once a year.
3. Wash collection bag once a season.
