How to Replace the Impeller Blade on Your Stihl Shredder Vac

Stihl shredder vacs are renowned for their efficiency in handling garden debris, but like any mechanical device, they may require occasional maintenance. One crucial component that may need replacement over time is the impeller blade. If you've noticed a decrease in performance or strange noises coming from your Stihl shredder vac, it's time to replace the impeller blade.

Materials Needed:

  1. Replacement impeller blade
  2. Screwdriver
  3. Socket set
  4. Work gloves
  5. Safety glasses

Step 1: Safety First Before you begin, ensure your Stihl shredder vac is turned off and disconnected from any power source. Put on your work gloves and safety glasses to protect your hands and eyes during the replacement process.

Step 2: Accessing the Impeller Blade Locate the impeller housing on your shredder vac. Depending on the model, this may be on the bottom or side of the unit. Use your screwdriver or socket set to remove any screws or bolts securing the impeller housing.

Step 3: Removing the Old Impeller Blade Once the impeller housing is open, you'll have clear access to the impeller blade. Carefully remove the blade by unscrewing any fasteners that hold it in place. Take note of the orientation of the old blade as you'll need to install the new one in the same way.

Step 4: Installing the New Impeller Blade Place the new impeller blade in the same position as the old one, ensuring it aligns correctly with the shaft. Secure the blade with the appropriate fasteners, tightening them securely but not excessively.

Step 5: Checking for Proper Alignment Spin the impeller blade manually to confirm it rotates smoothly and without resistance. This ensures the blade is correctly aligned and won't cause any issues during operation.

Step 6: Closing the Impeller Housing Once you're satisfied with the new impeller blade's installation, carefully close and secure the impeller housing. Tighten all screws or bolts securely to prevent any debris from escaping during operation.

Step 7: Testing the Shredder Vac Before putting the shredder vac back into regular use, conduct a test run in a safe and open area. Listen for any unusual noises and observe the performance to ensure the new impeller blade is functioning properly.
